BTW, Dungeon Solitaire with sound via a car stereo sounds *really* good....
(I got to the dentist's early, so grabbed the phone to play a round, forgetting I had it plugged in for podcasts during the drive. I got quite a surprise when this big, bass boom shook my car....)

Rumor is that iPhone 4G will have videochat as a defining feature (and be available o Verizon, and maybe een Sprint, eventually.)

I still think gaming on a handset is pretty sub-optimal unless the devs really do it right (racing games come to mind) but now that I have an iPad I get to take advantage of the App Store Gaming Ecosystem.
Was wondering if anyone else would be interested in taking part in an "iPhone/Touch/iPad Gaming" thread? I actually thought we had one somewhere but I can't find it.
Actually maybe we should just call it "Touch Gaming" so Palm and Android users could get in on the fun, too.

Here's the thread: http://www.jadedspub.com/forum/index.php?topic=1469.0 (its title is "iPhone/iPod Touch (and iTablet device?) Games "). Feel free to rename it/move it! I'm interested in joining the talk again.

In something of a surprise, Apple has approved the Opera Mini browser for the iPhone... It's already shown up in iTunes in the UK and Australia

It's up now. Sadly no iPad version, but it's a miracle we got the iPhone version. I like the 'tabbed browsing' on the Android version. Hope it works as well for you iPhoners!

I checked last night but it wasn't up then; will give it a whirl tonight unless I can eek out enough bars of cell signal to get it here at work. Too bad it's not on the iPad--I wonder if it just hasn't been developed yet, or if it got rejected?

I've got it downloaded, am now trying to get to the Pub via it... (blasted connection in our building--sometime it's two bars of 3G, the next second it's nuthin', the next second it's four bars of Edge!)

So is the whole iphone on Verizon "news" just giant speculation? I can't find any sort of confirmation anywhere. Since AT&T 3G service here is the absolute shite, any alternative is better!

Tons and tons of speculation, no announcements so far. Folks seem to think the OS 4.0 will be part of an iPhone 4.0 in August; there's been some speculation of two form-factors, one for AT&T cell technology and one for Verizon/others.

I gave Opera Mini a short whirl on my phone. It is indeed fast--even in WiFi it felt noticeably faster, at least at the render stage, than Safari (there is that pause while it does its on-server convert thing before it renders). Also, flick-scrolling felt faster. There is no pinch-zoom; I've read that there are two zoom levels, but I only seem to have a zoomed in view. I can just barely get a Pub thread to display a post at that level--it seems to "fit" better in Safari. I've only done text entry in the user name and password fields of the Pub, and it felt clunkier than Safari. I haven't fooled with the multiple tabs, but I do like the way they do favorites. I also like the menu, including the in-app configuration section (which one review said should've been in the default place on the iPhone settings "app"?).
Because of the lack of pinch-zoom I'm going to stick with Safari for now, unless maybe I get into a situation where I'm 3G only and have enough bars to do any web stuff at all.

I think I read somewhere that the lack of pinch-zooming is intentional, to avoid stepping on Apple's IP toes...

That's interesting, and makes sense. Still, I miss it! Wish Apple would get off its, well, whatever, especially for an app like Safari that comes with the device--another browser isn't really competition, is it? And didn't Microsoft get in more than a bit of anti-competitive trouble for pushing IE above all others? (Or maybe that's for pushing manufacturers to default to IE, or not install others, something Apple doesn't have to worry about).

So have you all seen the stolen lost iPhone 4th generation that Gizmodo bought was given? The story is someone "found" this phone in a bar and gave it to Gizmodo. So either it's just a total marketing thing from Apple (which industry followers I've spoken to says is unlikely...Apple is still riding the iPad surge high and there's no need for them to tip their hand right now), or someone stole the prototype and sold it to Gizmodo. http://gizmodo.com/5520164/this-is-apples-next-iphone
