Intriguing indeed! And a reason to get to 80. Though I've vowed not to rush there, I'm being tempted sorely by this. Embarrassed

I miss WarHammer's RvR scenarios and this might fill the need, especially the Gears of Klak'Anon "Relic Hold" battleground. A total ripoff of Warhammer's Mourkain Temple scenario, but since I liked that battle the very best of all of the scenarios, I'm in!

Now, I need to remember the strategery for Mourkain Temple. Oh yeah - KILL THE DUDE WITH THE THING!

*lol*   Kill the Dude with the Thing!  that was a classic.   Funnily enough it was epic Mourkain temple battles that I was remembering as I went to bed last night.

I wonder if level will be a factor.  EQ2 does mentoring so well and across so many situations that they make have auto mentoring to a level in the BGs.   AoC did that and it worked pretty well.  Higher levels mentoring down are always going to be more powerful as they are in PvE but It's never truly an even playing field anyway. Just so long as you can contribute and feel you have a chance.

I have to say, I'm not terribly impressed by this Battlegrounds announcement. Then again, I'm firmly ensconced in the PvE camp. Smiley If I want PvP, I'll duel somebody or take the fight into one of the arenas that already exist in-game.

I also see this as a bit too "end-game" for my tastes. For all the work they've been doing to make lower-level zones more engaging, including the introduction of the auto-mentor (chonomagic) system, it doesn't seem sensible to make people feel as though they need to rush to level 80 before they can actually enjoy any major aspect of the game.

But again, that's just me. Smiley

NDA for the latest expansion has been lifted.

I only got in this week (apparently I had the email sometime ago but missed it somhow, doh), although Merrie has been in since December.

Haven't really seen much yet, just a jaunt through The Hole (a contested dungeon.)

I will say though that the new artwork is pretty amazing.   Smiley

Well, if the Character Names thread is anything to go by, most everyone's on Lucan D'Lere. Wink

Not being a fan of pvp, I pretty much agreed with this Smiley

That said,  this past Sunday morning after a failed attempt at getting a group together for the SF mark mission of the day, the tank I was with suggested we try BGs, so on a whim I did.

Turned out to be surprisingly entertaining. Now, this isn't something I plan on doing long term, mostly I just want to get enough tokens to buy a sword from the vendor, but the BG's are an interesting diversion, even if my dirge ends up dying a lot Smiley (If I get grouped with a decent tank, and by decent I mean one that can keep 'aggro' and take a beating, Blais does ok. Otherwise I end up chain mezzed/stunned, whereupon a scout will dice me up into itty bitty pieces, or I'll get blown up by a caster in short order, which for some reason I find amusing.)

For the most part they are pretty quick, and maybe I've been lucky but so far there's been very little of the chest thumping/trash talking that usually turns me off to pvp. I still think the gear you can get from doing this is too good - it's raid quality gear really -- (jewelry and weapons) but I don't see that changing.

If you decide to try it, let me know, and I'll start a character so we can play together if you'd like to.  I have a copy of the game+expansions with the free 30-day trial period lying around my house somewhere...

I'm gonna give it a whirl. I'm creating a character tonight on Lucan d'Whatever. Look for "Mirceliadus."

Sony are introducing a new subscription option for veteran players, called the EQ2 Passport.  It is a smaller fee per month for a limited number of consecutive days each month.  Currently set at $5 for 3 days per month.

http://www.everquest2.com/get_the_game/passport

I feel it's a bit too limited and pricey for what it is.  3 Consecutive days per month is not much and I think people playing casually would be more interested in scattered days then consecutive.  It does start opening up the field for more such options though.   If something ever came out that let me say play 3 weekends a month, or 5-6 scattered days for half the current monthly fee then it would be quite attractive and fit my normal routine.    What I'd really liek to see though is some kind of buying of days.  Say $1, or a bit more, per day.  I could then use 5-10 days per month and be very comfortable.  I think it would also attract a fair number of players who'd like to pop back in semi regualry, but not enough to want to pay a regular monthly subscription.

SOE has dropped a bombshell today, announcing new free-to-play (sort of) servers. Here's the breakdown:

http://everquest2.com/_themes/default/images/extended/membershipMatrix.jpg

The existing servers will stay with the existing payment model (thank goodness). As you can see from that image, the truly free version is really gimped; more of a trial than anything. I don't know why you'd pay $15/month to play on "Free To Play" (actually they're calling it Everquest II Extended Edition I think) servers, except that you don't have to buy the game and the expansion packs...

I dunno, it all just seems really weird to me.

I'm glad they're keeping the existing system in place, though.
