Holy cow, it looks like they went all the way down VT Route 100 -- you can even go to Rochester, VT, the home of Chips 'n' Bits! I'll see if I can find the ol' Chips residence (and it was a converted house, with additions--really ramshackle, actually) later--I don't have time to go up and down the street now.

Heheh. I guess the theory is, if you're driving from one city to another, might as well keep taking pictures the whole way. Why stop?

I always found Chips & Bits HQ by watching for the "Ferrets 4 Sale" sign. I was in the Church Street office. That ROCKED! What a great place to work, with about a dozen excellent places to grab launch within a 5 minute walk, and plenty of bars to pop off to after work. And of course lots of co-eds wandering around!! Glory Days!

It also happens to be one of the scenic drives in a very scenic state (I'd half forgotten about the Granville Gulch). Hmm--I wonder if the ski resort down there helped get that googlecar to come through? And I wonder if they caught any moose (I lived in Vermont four years and never saw a moose or bear there).

Oh, and that Bridge Street area in Burlington was designed by the same fellow who designed the downtown Boulder, CO "pedestrian friendly" area, and I can see the similarities. There were often odd characters hanging out down there, with even odder pets (although I don't recall ever seeing the guy with the big snake). Vermont is/was a very pet friendly state--folks often had cats or even dogs in offices.
Err, I return you to your regularly scheduled thread....

Kind of cramming this one sideways in to fit the topic, but in case you've missed the news, ExtremeTech.com is shutting down this week. Everyone involved is getting whacked, from what I hear.
Wasn't a site I went to often, but it still sucks hearing about people losing their jobs.

I really liked Extremetech - I know that Patrick Norton and some former TechTV guys had ties to the site (though they didn't write for it or anything.)

I don't think I'd ever visited the site before (I'm pretty out of it when it comes to these things)--I didn't realize that's where Jason Cross had ended up (shows you how closely I've dug into his Facebook page). That's a real bummer--I worked with Jason at CGM/CGO... a nice guy, with a passion for the hardware stuff. I hope he and his co's land on their feet.
Didn't know Loyd case was their either. I wonder what it means when he writes in his final column that "...Executive Editor Jeremy Kaplan (former editor of ExtremeTech Magazine) will take over management and editorial direction for the site. That means this is the last Notes from the Basement column, at least, the last one hosted by Ziff-Davis"?

So it seems "Play" magazine has folded, and I didn't even notice until after about a month... Dave Halverson is relaunching "Gamefan"... you know what they say about cockroaches and all.

I loved the style of that magazine Yeah, Zuki, I've got to admit that it was beautiful to look at (great pictures, clean design.) but Dave Halverson has a history of questionable dealings, practices, and screwing over employees and subscribers. (Thus my previous post about "cockroaches" , they keep popping up, and Brummbar's reaction.

that's too bad. If that's the case, then it should fold. Bad Karma returning on Halverson.
