As you saw, I got both packs.  I didn't own anything in the Lucasarts pack and I remembered how much fun I had with their adventures.  I'm currently playing the original Dark Forces and plan on working my way through the series in order.  Surprisingly I don't find the graphics to be all that bad in DF, and I think back to when it first came out and how good it looked then Smiley

The THQ pack was a good deal for me.  I owned a couple of pieces, but it is nice to not have to fetch the CDs, or keep them in the drive.  I had already finished TQ, so I'll just have to ensure I keep my character around if I want to play with the Steam version.  The main reason I picked up the THQ set was for the Red Faction set, so I felt I really got my monies worth on that.

I also got the first Left 4 Dead.  I own it on the 360, but I really do suck at FPS on the consoles.  I figured for 7.50 even if I only get a chance to play single player it was worth the money.

I love Majesty, so almost picked up Majesty 2, but the reviews stated that it lost some of the appeal of the first one, plus it was created by a different company.  I'll be keeping my eye out for a sale in the future, especially if they patch in a skirmish/sandbox mode.

I seem to be an FPS person now-a-days, though I still enjoy RTS as well.  Really want to get back into RPGs, but I just haven't wanted to invest time in any characters.

I didn't pick up anything at any other site/store, though I hope people I sent my Christmas list to noticed the sales Wink

Very nice!  Thanks for sharing.

As an added bonus, if you do end up playing Dawn of War 2 from your THQ pack, remember to sign into Games for Windows Live, and any achievements you earn in that game will be added to your Xbox Live gamercard.

I enjoy RTS games, but I enjoy the other variety more.  The Warlords Battlecry/Supreme Commander variety, with their fancy interfaces.  I own Company of Heroes, Dawn of War (and it's expansions) from Relic, but I never get very far in them before getting bored with the small engagement tactical gameplay.  But I've almost been lured into getting Dawn of War II a few times now because of the lure of achievements.  Achievements might actually get me to play the single player campaign all the way through, who knows.

As for Left 4 Dead: I hope you enjoy it.  Last year, I got it because of peer pressure from my friends, and they all enjoyed it more than I did.  The game ended up being too easy or too difficulty for me.  When I won the campaigns on normal, it felt like the game was being too easy on me (especially with 3 friends to help me), but on the harder difficulties we could never finish any of the episodes, so it felt way too difficult.  So I never found the sweet spot in that game where it felt like just the right mix of challenging and not-overly-difficult.  Maybe single player on Normal will provide that for you.

Good idea on Dark Forces.  I never did play that.  I own and LOVE Jedi Knight though.  However, I will probably stay away from the Steam version of Jedi Knight, because it doesn't contain the CD music on the original CD, unfortunately.  So I'll have to revert to my CD version for that game.  When you finish Dark Forces Cragmyre, I might have to burn you a CD full of the Star Wars music from Jedi Knight, just so that you won't have to play the game without John Williams' awesome score.  It really adds a LOT to the game.  So let me know if you want me to do that.  I believe the game still looks for the CD tracks, so if you have a CD in the drive with tracks in the proper order, even the Steam version will play the right music at the right times.  I'll just have to fill in the first track with something else.  (That's the data track on the original disc).

Anyone else have a Black Friday haul they want to share?  Smiley

Just a reminder:  This week Magic The Gathering has been on sale for Gold members on Xbox Live Arcade.  I finally got around to trying the demo this morning, and the game is excellent!  The tutorial does a great job of explaining each phase and how to use the cards to a newbie like myself who doesn't really know the Magic system very well.

I've played a few campaign games so far, and I'm really enjoying it.  I recommend anyone interested try the demo today or tomorrow.  The game will be on sale until Tomorrow night, I believe.  $5 instead of $10.

I bought it at $10 and play it from time to time.  The only bad thing is no deck editor.  I did not buy the expansion yet.  I've also never played against a real person before either.

Amazon Deal of the Day is The Wire, all seasons on DVD for $90.  After hearing about it so much, I couldn't resist anymore.  I ordered it after clicking on it through the Pub's little Amazon widget thingie.  I was also tempted by the lightning deal for the Beatles Mono collection for $150.  That's a good deal for how much you save, but I couldn't get myself to spend $150 on something like that.

When I buy something like this, I usually let it sit in the packaging for a long time until I'm ready to watch it, and then I finally open it.  I'll be wanting to open it right away this time, and Venture I recommend you do the same.  From the sounds of the reviews at Amazon, the only thing wrong here is that packaging is a bit flimsy.  So sometimes the set comes with scratched discs and for some even a missing disc.  But obviously Amazon will just replace the set for you if you happen to run into that.  So I figure I'll open it right away and make sure nothing is scratched and none of the discs are missing from the boxed set.

This weekend GFWL has their RTS games for 50% off.

So I bought Age of Empires 3 Complete (which includes both expansion packs, including the really well-reviewed expansion by Big Huge Games) for $20 (or more accurately, 1600 MS points, but you can pay directly if you want).

I'm enjoying the game so far, but I made the mistake of starting my first game at slow speed.  There seems to be no way of changing game speed during the game, so I'm stuck playing this hours long epic match, 20 minutes at a time.  Luckily the game allows you to save at any point.

GFWL deal of the week is Civ 4 Complete for $10.  That includes Colonization, and the two expansions for Civ 4.

Also, here's a big one:  On Direct2Drive, you can use "schoolsucks" as a promo code to get $10 off your preorder of Civilization 5.  Civ5 is a steamworks game, so even when you buy from D2D, you get a code, which you enter into Steam, and then you own the game on Steam as well.  Plus D2D already had the best Civ5 pre-order bonus, which is 2 bonus civilizations and a scenario at a later date, and Civ3 complete right now.  I ordered the deluxe edition, which also includes the Babylonian Civilization.

Dang, those are great prices. Civ 4 is worth it many times over (never got into Colonization...)

Civ 5 is THE purchase I'm making, but I have a credit at EBGames so I'll buy it there. I like the "schoolsucks" code, though. My kids would have no problem remembering it. Wink

Yeah, if I didn't own Civ4, or the BtS expansion, it would be a no-brainer.  As it is, I own Civ4 and expansions, but I don't have Colonization.  So I'm not sure if it's worth it just for Colonization.  Not because $10 is a lot, but just that I'm not sure if Colonization is my cup of tea.

I took advantage of the Civ 4 deal on GFWL, but could not preorder Civ V on Direc2Drive, due to territorial restrictions.   Huh

I guess I'm never buying from them, if they don't want us people from the territories as customers.  I'll get the game at Best Buy or Gamestop instead.
