For MMOs I think beta-testing for the company really means "stress testing" and "hear what people think" while, to users, it means "Free trial."

I don't think single player games are tested much outside the developers' offices these days, due to piracy. That's just my gut feeling though, I don't know for sure.

Thanks for linking that great article on your news feed Jaded.  (Achievement Chore).  That was a really enjoyable read.  I had no idea Kotaku even did articles like that.

My pleasure. I've been hard pressed to update the news feed these days, so apologies if it isn't getting refreshed as often as it should. That was an interesting piece, though. Glad someone else enjoyed it.

Watched Spike's VGA Awards tonight. Pretty meh, as it generally is. Best part was Claudia Black as the host-voice, and Amy Henning thanking her as "the disembodied voice."

I wasn't going to watch the awards... now I will, just because of Claudia Black (or rather, her very sexy voice.) Smiley

I was watching the latest BONUS ROUND and they were talking about the future of PC games and Michale Pactor made a statement that one of the reasons is the PS3 is better than any PC one could own ala processing speed and graphics. I was stunned at this statement.
Now for the price yes, but he has to be joking when compared to a top of the line gaming rig, no?

I am stunned at the stuff that comes out of his mouth sometimes... and this guy gets paid a lot of money for his "insider" knowledge. Bah!  Angry

His most recent gem, when talking about Forza 3 and Gran Turismo PSP:  "I don't understand who plays these games.  I own a Porsche, so I'd rather drive that in real life."  What an idiot...

I wouldn't be surprised... EA hasn't had exactly a stellar year (lots of losses, layoffs and studio closings.)  And now they lost Tiger Woods (though that wasn't their fault.)  Huh

Some time ago, in a thread long, long forgotten, I posted to ask if there were any computer game equivalents of Boardgamegeek (and got some info).  Well, BGG is growing; they'd already started an RPG equivalent, and are apparently adding a "video" (game) equivalent.  It looks like they're going to be tying them all together via a new name/interface, www.geekdo.com (for me it used the same login as my boardgamegeek.com account.

Here's my crappy photo album from PAX (all taken w/camera phone): http://picasaweb.google.com/pasmith/PAX2010

And here's Angela's version though you'll note she's more about the people and venue than the games: http://s149.photobucket.com/home/eq2graphics/set/1083?page=1

"Tired feets"....   I SOOOOOO remember those from E3, especially in Atlanta with it's quarter mile-long venues I had to march up and down many times daily (flat feet on hard floors--not a good combo!).

I want both those tables!

Great pictures, thanks for sharing, Pete (and Angela too.) Wink

Did you notice the size of that cooling solution on the GTX480 card? Not a big fan of those, but Tegra/Tegra2 is the best CPU/GPU solution for mobile devices. (Much faster than the PowerVR GPU in the iPhone, iPad, Pre and Droid.)

Great pics!!  Man, I need one of those gaming tables now, dagnabbit!  It still boggles my mind that the whole PAX thing evolved from fans of Penny Arcade having a giant LAN party to what we have today.  Absolutely amazing!

Holy cow!  Who is that indeed, looking all wizardly and such.  Last we saw each other, I remember a mustache and Leprechaun twinkle... Smiley

(I can't talk, G says she sees more white in my hair all the time; me, I think it's just the reflection of the light, but have to admit when I didn't shave while over in Korea I had one all-white blotch in the scraggly stuff.)

Ummm...  "cosplaying"?
